I have just added 2 new XP Pro machines to a small network. They log onto
and share files on an NT server which is the PDC.
Intermittently , Excel and Access will hang for 30 seconds or more when
saving a file to this shared area on the NT server. The problem only happens
on saving and not on opening. The problem still does not and never has
affected any other machine on the network in the 2 years of the network
running. I have seen various articles and posts saying to remove registry
keys that look for remote scheduled tasks, others that say to remove network
passwords managed by XP or to enable netbios over TCPIP.
I have done all of this and the problem still exists. Has anyone got any
ideas?? Please!!!
Thanks,
Sean

I am having the exact same proble, the only difference is that I am running a win2K domain network. All the win2K pro machines are running fast, but all the winXP machines acts very slow when trying to save excel files to the network.

I'm having the same problem. We have two NT Servers (Both Dell, 2200 and 4400). I can save data to 2200 without a problem, the 4400 has the same problems as you. My XP laptop (Dell C840) is the only machine with a problem.
Please email me if anyone finds a solution.
Thanks,
John Panagia

Same issue here...I have multiple XP laptops. Only one is having this issue. Opens files from both NT PDC and BDC without delay. Can save files to BDC without delay BUT saving to PDC is very slow if it even happens at all. I have found others, like yourselves, with similar problems but have not found anyone who has an answer. At first I thought it may be linked with sych manager but I have removed all those settings and the problem still exists.
Can anyone help?
