slow response from start menu/program
I have Classic Start Menu turned on. When I click on Start, Programs, an empty box appears and it takes about 30 secs to have the program listings to populate the menu. very annoying. It works ok when logged into these PC's with a local account but when logged in as a network account it happens. I'm wondering if some Group Policy is being pushed out to cause this.
changing the below setting does not affect it
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ControlPanel/Desktop/MenuShowDelay
any ideas would be helpful

Speed up the Start Menu
The default speed of the Start Menu is pretty slow, but you can fix that by editing a Registry Key. Fire up the Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Desktop\MenuShowDelayBy default, the value is 400. Change this to a smaller value, such as 0, to speed it up.
If your are still confounded by the slow speed of the Start Menu, even after using the tip above, then you might try the following: Navigate to Display Properties then Appearance then Advanced and turn off the option titled Show menu shadow . You will get much better overall performance.

XPuser's response is fine, but it's not the answwer to the question. The given fix is very good for getting an immendiate response from the 'start' button.
But the problem asked for here is *after* the start menu has appeared and the 'All Programs' is clicked. I too have this problem, there's a too-long delay before the programs are seen. Any solutions?
