hp that is 2 years old runs very slow takes 2 to 3 min. to load programs and open menus. what could be done to fix this short of formating and reload windows. he does the defrag, disk cleanup and such, but he has a lot of things going on at one time. thanks

Hello
This system is cutting it fine with that amount of RAM. I'm getting close to running out of ram with 256MB Ram, I'd Recommend 512MB+ Ram for Windows XP. Anyway, I'd like to see a HijackThis log, to check wether any crapware is running on your system.
Download Hijackthis from http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/ and create a log. If you are on Windows 9x, make sure you have a Unzipping utility like Winzip (www.winzip.com). Extract, and Press Scan. Then please save the log and Post that log onto this topic. DO NOT Delete or modify anything yet, as some of it is needed to keep your system healthy!

Absolutely, 128 MBs is just not enough RAM for Windows XP. Heck, right now my system is using 148 MBs with just my browser running. I would use Spybot Search and Destroy to find any spyware possibly installed on your system which could cause a system to slow.
Definitely get more RAM though.

i have the same problem but,i have 512 ram and windows xp pro.here are the results form hijackthis test

I was looking for an explanation of BXSX5 and I see it is included with the above log from a hijackthis process.
My question is: Is bxsx5 good or bad for my computer's digestive system?
