My computer is running much slower then it has it the past. I have run malwarebytes and AVG - started in safe mode, ran the same two apps again, removed what it found, I have no failing hardware, I have checked the virtual ram and ensured it is set correctly.
What else can I do before reformating and starting over, fresh?

When is it slow, accessing the internet, running apps or saving files?

Go into task manager and look at your performance tab and tell us your CPU utilization and Memory usage just after bootup.

Go to the command prompt and type netstat and tell us how many open ports you have to the internet.

When was the last time you defraged your drive?

Di you install any apps like screen savers or google sidebar around the time it started to act slow?

CPU is overheating & throttling back. When's the last time you opened the case & blew the dust out of it?

Clean out your temp folders (you have 3 of them) and run a defrag.

Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click "OK"

You need to accept the fact that the speed of your Dell or HP P4 will never be faster. Quit thinking that we may have better answers than the ones we gave you in your past threads below.
