Slow network connection on XP boot

When I boot up windows XP, and log into windows, the network connection icon takes a long time to show up in the start up on the bottom right hand side where you see the 2 little monitors indicating you have established a network connection...

No I cant use the lan/wan until the icon shows up...

You need to wait for all services to load before executing any applications. A good rule of thumb is wait until all the icons in the system tray are visible; including the network connectivity icon (if you have them enabled of course.)
