I have AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 1.82 GHz 1.5 GB ram Windows Xp pro, sp3..new install...have had problems with slow internet...ISP no help...speed tests show 25000Kbs or better download and 3000Kbs upload...I did the reinstall to see if this would help but still get really slow internet...sometimes pages time out or don't load full content...with speeds as listed I would not say that It's the modem...any ideas?

phantalon, with speeds like that, it should be blazing. Possible it's your firewall? If it scans everything, it can be really slow. Maybe stop real time scanning? Could it be congested internet? Try it in the middle (2 AM) of the night and see.

We need more details about your setup.

What router/modem are you using?
Is this ADSL Broadband?
Do you have any software which may throttle the speed, such as anti-virus or firewall?
Are your drivers for Ethernet/Wifi up to date?

To be honest, it sounds like the fault is at the end of your ISP.

If your using internet explorer... let us know what IE version your using? There's many many problems with IE8 being slow at not only startup, but also using tabs, etc.

How would I get those speeds if my isp was throttling my service?
I'm using the modem provided, a Scientific Atlanta...and a neww D-Link router, which got high ratings on Newegg...
I've updated the drivers on my nic card, for some reason it's better but doesn't seem all that great...I really appreciate all your responses ..thank you
