Hi, I have a portable with a Fujitsu HDD (20Gb). When I first installed WinXP everything was fine, now when I use such tools as eMule, the HDD has become so slow. Even I defragment there is the same problem present. I notice it specially if running winamp, the sound stops and delays and there are interrupts. And if you listen music and open MS Word, it stops for some time and then goes back again. During these interrupts, there is a high HDD usage noticed. Anybody has similair problems?

hello

1) How much free space do you have ?
( < 15% is NOT ok :) )

a) make more free space.
b) defrag.
c) donot run too much heavy
applications at the same time.

2) Look in task manager :
you probably have :
a) "heavy" applications running at the
same time.
(Ms-word is heavy f.i)
(look at memory use)
b) too much open applications :
(f.i. if you open notepad 20x
you wil see it 20x in memory)

Good Luck

Theo

Also, most laptop hard drives as far as I know are only 5400 rpm where as desktop hard drives are usually 7200 rpm which means that laptop's hard drives will preform much more slowly than a desktop.
