Slow file transfer between PC's

Just got Windows XP. Everything with the exception of the file transfering between cpu's. 1 got one with winxp the other win98. When I transfer files between the 2 computers thru the network it takes a long time. eg. 1 35 meg file was telling me it would take 143 minutes to transfer. Can anybody help. pls. It used to take seconds between my other 2 computers. Also, this computer is brand new I had a clean install of windows XP.
I am having the same problem as well. This problem is killing me. File Transfer between PC takes ages. Even FTP program seems having problem working on XP. Downloading is okay but transfer rate for uploading is extremely slow. Anyone here have the solution to this?
