slow fan, no signal to monitor

March 27, 2011 at 17:57:04
Specs: Windows 7
All of a sudden my cpu fan slows up. You can barely hear it run. My monitor goes off after saying "no signal". I have cleaned the memory cards and problem still there. Does fan got anything to do "no signal"? This is an old Presario SR2020NX running on WinXP.

magg, you bet! A slow fan can indicate a couple of things. A hot machine comes to mind. Fans are pretty cheaply made and failure isn't uncommon. A buildup of dust on the blades can slow it down. They're pretty cheap and usually pretty easy to replace (4 screws?). Does it work at first, then get hot and quit?
If nothing ever comes on, monitor died?
Could it be the power supply (another pretty common ailment)? Typically, they supply several different voltages and 1 can die while the others are fine. As you can see, could be a number of things and you may need a pro.
