Wondering if anybody can help me out with a problem? I'm running Dell Windows XP, 1 GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM, Pentium dual-core processor and a 250 GB hard drive. Problem is this thing is soooo slow; it's ridiculous.
Main computer is upstairs, mine is downstairs and connected with a wireless router card. When I first hooked it up, (about a year ago) Internet came up immediately and I could browse with no problem. Now, it's forever to do anything, I wait forever for a link to come up. I went to troubleshoot on my computer and it asked if I was hooked up through a dial up connection (which I'm not and said so) it came back with "No other solutions offered." Can anyone tell me what might be going on here, thanks for the help. Computer is only about 1 1/2 years old.

I suggest to use Malwarebytes, HiJackThis and Avira AntiVir Rescue System. to check your system for viruses, trojans or dialer.

Definitely check for malware running and other programs running in the background.
Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:
1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click "OK"Hope this helps
