I have an emachine about 1 year old w 80 gig and 512 ram. anyway, pop ups had infected it so bad you couldnt surf the internet. we eventually crashed the computer wiping out all personal data and using the recovery discs to re-install factory settings. now the computer still goes extremely slow if you click on anything and usually it won't put you on the internet. we have dsl. could i format the c drive then use the recovery discs? last time we didnt formatt it we just put the discs in. thanks, please help

Sounds like a driver issue ,
check for latest updates, especially graphics card , and the motherboard manufacture web site for updates, for all in one driver packs.
If still no joy run a few free ,antispy ware proggies

I had the same problem while working on a PC....it was spyware related.
You may also wanna run a free on-line scan at
On-line Spyware Scan
Nothing was said about a firewall. You may want to try
Sygate Personal Firewall
which is quite user friendly. I have tried zone alarm, but it has issues with Adaptec Easy CD.
I noticed that when I uninstalled Zone Alarm, some PC's kept crashing, saying they were missing some Zone Alarm vxd's so that's why I suggested Sygate Home.

Are you running SP1 or 2?
