Basically computer can barely handle stuff like youtube, which is jerky. Most games are a nightmare. I use Firefox rather than IE, though the tabs often only respond after 30secs or so (and the address bar fails to update). Most of these problems occur after about half an hour of use. Any ideas? Much appreciated...

As long as all hardware are OK .. format the HD & reinstall the OS may be the best & only way to rejuvenate your Windows to a faster & more robust performance.

I wouldn't expect that config to run blazing fast anyway. Do your best to customize the BIOS settings & make sure you set your RAM to run at 100MHz (PC1600), regardless of the fact that it's PC3200.

Download, install CCleaner. Run the cleaner, then scan for issues. Click Tools/Startup & see what programs you have loading. Have you run MSCONFIG?

Please turn off Indexing Service or

Open My Computer, right click on the drive where Windows is installed and click Properties.

At the bottom of the new window, you will see two checkboxes.

One of the two checkboxes is related to indexing the drive. Click to clear the checkbox and then click Apply.

You should do the same if you have more than one drive or partition.

After some time, you have too many things on your PC to index. And this takes too much of your processor power.

Hope the above helps.
