"XP Pro 640 MB memory using FF browser 40G HD

I customarily download a half dozen pictures daily (and have for several years). I'm on dialup internet (SLOW I know, but that's all that's available, not counting satellite, even cable T.V. doesn't offer hi speed).
When I first started, they saved relatively quickly (matter of seconds). Now they're EXTREMELY slow (over 2 min. ea. by the clock). I use CCleaner (set to kill index.dat & temp. files) and Disk Cleanup daily, Defrag, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D weekly, Anti-Trojan monthly and it still seems slow. Is there some sort of log file (registry entry?) that I'm overlooking that would slow my machine down? What can I do to improve things? "

Some of you may remember that post or have offered suggestions. I finally figured it out after months of frustration. Turns out the cause was in my history. The history file gets quite large over time and all I had to do was clear it to put things right. Hopefully, someone else can benefit.

... empty your Recyle Bin as well.

... and start> control panel> internet options> delete cookies, delete files, and again clear history.

... Also open explorer window (NOT internet explorer) eg any folder

... go to tools> folder options> view tick "show hidden files and folders"

... next got to:

C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\temp

... and delete ALL the contents of the temp folder

... may help

I personally have my history file in internet options set to 1 day for removal and recommend that all my customers do the same as the spybots and spyware look there for what you do on the internet...while they may get one day usage there is hardly any way for them to acurately get more detail of your web browsing!

I set CCleaner to run on startup so I have nothing to do but start the computer.

By default it cleans for me,

* Temporary Internet Files
* Cookies
* History
* Recently Typed URLs
* Index.dat Files
* Last Download Location
* Recent Documents List
* Typed Run commands
* Autocomplete (form filler)
* Other Explorer MRUs (Most recently used)
* Recycle Bin
* Temporary Files
* Windows Log Files
