Hi everyone, I am having a problem with XP, I get slow boot time (about 2-3 minutes), and it drives me mad as I have made sure I removed every not needed services, softwares, etc... It hangs for a long time in the logo display. So I thought this would be a driver problem and booted in Safe mode, but it still gives me a slow boot. I have tried TuneXP which did not solve my problem. Also tried Bootvis but it does not seem to work (no graph displayed). One indication: I have only one hard drive (IDE hard drive, on which I have a SATA cable plugged into an adapter) and a IDE DVD drive plugged into the Mobo. Please help. Many thanks in advance.

If i hit escape at the logo it does not do anything (i am talking about the winxp logo with the blue progress bar under it) The progress bar seem to stop on a few occasions by the way. I have tried putting the hard drive on the ide cable, it still as slow. I will give windows care a go but i doubt a single prog can do somthing. Thanks.

Are the jumper settings correct on the hard drive ? In the BIOS, is the hard drive listed as the master drive ? Is the DVD drive listed as the master on the secondary IDE channel ?

Hi, the hard drive does not need jumpers as it is on a SATA cable (when I switched it to IDE cable, it was appearing as a master) However, the DVD burner (even though it is on its own on the IDE cable) is listed as a slave, does it matter? Thanks

Hi again, I have removed the jumper on the dvd burner, it is now master on the IDE cable. Still, the boot stays very slow. Any other suggestion ? Thanks for the help.

If the system is hanging for two or three minutes on the XP logo, then you might want to look at http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show... My earlier suggestions were perhaps more appropriate if the system were hanging on the bios screen itself. I had that problem last summer and I replaced the IDE cable for the hard drive and it helped. That does not seem to be your problem, however.
