I have Win98SE and WinXP dual-installed on this machine. I attached a HDD slave in order to transfer a lot of files. The XP side sees the slave HDD but the 98SE side doesn't. At least I can't find it. What do I have to do to see the slave HDD in Win98? Thanx

slave drive can't be formatted in ntfs only fat32 or 98 can't see it.
To get 98 to see it wipe the partiton and recreate it. Then use 98 to format it. XP will see the 98 formatted drive just fine.

The slave is also dual-loaded with Win98 and WinXP. I want to transfer files from both sides of the slave to both sides of the master HDD which is dual loaded. The XP side of the master HDD sees the slave as "drive G" and I can copy the files from the XP side of the slave to the XP side of the master. But when I open the 98SE side of the master it doesn't see the slave at all. Is the FAT32 vs NTFS formatting the issue?

Normally I don't ask this....but exactly what are you trying to achieve here. To have a master and slave both dual booted alike and then used to swap files back and forth is really not a good thing and really serves no purpose as you can only transfer data files and not applications or programs. In as such all that would be necessary would be a common shared slaved drive formatted in FAT32 so as to be read by both operating systems. This would solve the storage of personal data and act as backup for bot OS.
If you are wanting a quick solution for repair options then I would recommend that you thoroughly clean the whole master drive and then use imaging to serve as back up and restorations.Change Is Good

All I want to do is TEMPORARILY attach the slave drive to the master. Both drives are dual loaded with Win98SE and WinXP. I simply want to transfer files from both sides of the slave to both sides of the master. When I have done that I will disconnect the slave. The problem is that the XP side of the master sees the XP side of the slave but the 98SE side of the master does not see the 98SE side of the slave, therefore I cannot transfer the files from the 98SE side of the slave to the 98SE side of the master. The question is simply this: why does the 98SE side of the master not see the 98SE side of the slave? Thanx for your patience.
