Hello, well first I must say this website helped me out earlier today. I was having a problem trying to set up a simple wireless connection, I came on here looked around and found a solution. Anyways all im trying to do is get on the internet using a wireless connection. Im using a brand new laptop which uses centrino mobile tech., I have a cisco lynksis router 2.4ghz (the standard one). Of course the laptop has a wireless network card built in. My problem earlier was that my laptop was not picking up any wireless signals at all, finally I learned that it has a wireless switch on the side that needed to be switched on. Once I switched it on it quickly found a couple wireless connections around my area. I connected to mine and it did it well, with excellent reception. My problem now is that when I open internet explorer it seems to start loading something, you know how you can tell when theirs no connection at all it will quickly say no page found or connection. It will open it and the status bar on bottom of ie xplorer will start going but will sit their for some seconds. Like it seems to connect but doesent fully, then after about 30 seconds it will say the page cannot be displayed. Now I know how a pain it can be getting wireless connections up and running. Ive seen these type of symptoms before on my other computers. I usually will try to ipconfig/renew release etc. or unplug the router and cable modem and just mess around with network settings and that for the most part will get things up and running. I just wanted to see if anybody had any tips or things that I could try to get my internet going. I know its not my isp or cable modem because their running fine. Although earlier when I was having the problem of not finding any wireless connections around my area, I tried the regular way of connectiong an ethernet cable from the router to the laptop, that got the internet running. But after a bunch network settings edits I tried re doing the ethernet cable to laptop from router way and it gave me the same response it did just now with the wireless connection *Note- when i tried redoing the cable plug way I still had not hit the switch on the side of the laptop for the wireless. Now that I figured out the switch situation I haven't tried plugging the ethernet cable to my laptop from my router. I just threw that in to see if it would help any expertees out their. So I hope I didnt mix you guys up with my situation but any suggestions would help. Thank you.

Turn off your fire wall first and see if that fixes the problem.
Make sure you have DNS and DHCP enabled in your services.
Disable ALL protection on both the router and the computer until you figure out what the problem is.
Make sure your browser can communicate DIRECTLY with the router. you can do this by punching your router address into the IE address bar. The default address for your linksys router is 192.168.1.1
One added note: when you get things up and running, make sure you enable and use WEP encryption... it sounds like you live in a busy area and you do not need other people snooping in on your connection.

Depending on how secure you want to be I recommend setting your router to only accept your wireless nic mac address from your laptop.
It is easier than WEP.
Also disable those other wireless networks or it will try to connect every time.
These steps may fix you right up.Good luck
