Hello everyone, here's a simple questions. I'm sure you are all aware of START---> DOCUMENTS right? Is there anyway I can eliminate or just make sure it doesn't store quick links to every doucment I open on my computer? On such a slow computer, it lags when it opens that menu. Thanks all.

I'm assuming that you are talking about "My Documents". If so ...

Right-click on the "Start" button and select Properties. In the dialog that pops up, select the customize button tot he right of Start Menu. Go to the Advanced tab. Find the option for "My Documents" and select the option to "Don't display this item"

Go to microsoft.com and download and install tweakui for xp. It allows you customize the Start Menu (among many other aspects of xp), including eliminating the Document History function.

Oh, after taking a second look, I don't think My Documents was what you meant. To remove the Most Recent documents. On the same property page as above there should be a checkbox to remove recent documents from the start menu as well.

If you want to continue using the "Documents" function, but just clear it ocasionally, right click on a blank space on the taskbar, select properties, and then the "Advanced" tab. You will see a button to clear the recent documents history

Just to say, you should get more RAM.
XP uses all of, at least, 128 to run properly,
and works better. Then you need more than that
for running other programs. Try 256 or 512 more.

Guys, clearifying for the poster here...
The question is refering to the MRU documents when the start menu is in 'classic' form.
I dont know how to prevent the list from forming, all that i know u can do is to clear it every now and then using the method that Seracca outlined.

First create a restore point or registry backup and then paste the below into
notepad and save it as fix.reg Then click on the file to import it into the registry.Worked for me using Classic style with XP Home

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoRecentDocsMenu"=hex:01,00,00,00
