On our school's network we're running a Novell client and Windows XP Pro. We're trying to disable "Simple File Sharing" but every time we log out, and log back in, it resets to enabled.
Is there a known glitch with SFS? Or is there something else at work here?
We're not running fancy scripts or anything out of the ordinary, it just seems we can't truly disable SFS once and for all.
Any ideas? Thanks.
If you don't have a Windows Network running, but only Novell Network, you don't need the Client for Microsoft Networks.
You can also uninstall the File and Printer sharing.BTW: Uninstalling no needed Network Clients speeds up your network.

You don't disable simple file sharing. By unchecking simple file sharing you enable advanced file sharing.
If the setting is not sticking after a reboot you either have a program/setup that restores everything back to original, you have a group policy re-enabling it [no mention of a ms dc server or AD], or your local account doesn't have the rights to make these changes.
paulsep's suggestion of uninstalling file and print sharing is the way to go. Last thing you want is the kids doing peer to peer sharing/playing games.

I suspect it is an issue related to logon rights with novell users. How you share resources with a novell is different than MS's client.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

netware doesn't do sharing especially at the workstation level. Novell experimented with it called Personal Netware but the product never took off [everyone was doing WFW] and it died.
