Comment:

I was asked by a friend to fix his connection ( he just got hooked up with a new ISP, Cable conection)his credentials are P4 1,6 Mhz 256 Mb ram WinXP home. He had tried to connect his cable modem to the USB port but it wasn't working. I put in a network adapter Lynksys, WinXP detected it but still no internet. I called his isp, the tech guy said he could see the card ( the MAC adress..) but it didn't work, the guy was clueless and so was I. We decided to shut the PC off and try again the next day and yes we had rebooted a few times. So the next day when I started the puter Internet worked with no problem but he still has a few other issues.BTW I ran adaware and SPYBOT and uninstall Norton and installed AVG, they discovered 3 trojan virus and zillions of spywares. after that clean up , in control pannel we are still stuck with 2 problems : CD-ROM drives a a yellow mark and CD_ writer as well, but as far as I know those never need drivers... any idea ?

Thx.

Hi ectoplasme. [weird name.LOL!] Try this . It some times works.
Create a Restore point and back up the registry.Open regedit.
Look for;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\SetControlClass.
Key name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Value Data:[Delete all value data from upper and lower filters]
Note-Do not delete the key or the multi-string values. Delete only the data values.
Exit regedit and reboot.
