I have Windows XP home edition, service pack 1. While on the internet, my computer is shutting down and restarts by itself- just out of the blue. For example, you could be looking up information and all of the sudden the screen turns black, and the computer restarts. Any idea what this is and what I can do to fix it? Thanks in advance!

by default, windows xp restarts when there is a system crash, which is bad if you ask me because you dont get to see the error. go to the Start button, Control Panel, System, click the Advanced tab, click the Settings button under 'Startup and Recovery' and uncheck 'Automatically Restart'. now when your pc crashes, you should at least be given an error message, then you need to manually reboot, but at least you will know the error and can try to fix the problem from there...its a start anyway...
