Good Morning (or, "mourning" in my case)
I have been running my E-Machine W1700, 40 G HD,
128 Mb, AMD AthlonXP 1700 for a while now w/ out many probs. A while ago I started getting blue screened with stop errors. (various, but usually Page Fault..)
One of them said to try disabling "shadowing" and, I believe "caching" in the syst. bios.
I found two entries related to this and disabled them,
re booted and crashed again after a bit
I re entered the Bios and selected "load failsafe settings"
NOW,I turn it on, the monitor fires up and says to check my cable or p c (for no signal, I guess)Within 10 or 15 seconds the machine shuts off. All the while I have NO MONITOR (which started acting up after I messed with the "video shadow caching" in the Bios) The Cable is New,
and, on one boot, while holding down del or f8 to access
the system, it DIDN"T shut down as if I HAD gained access.
However, with no Monitor I cant see where I am or what to do
Where am I? What do I do?
D.

First:
Check the pins on the monitor plug. Make sure they are all straight and not obstructed. Then:
I would try resetting your BIOS to the original factory settings. If you have the motherboard manual it will detail how to do it. You might be able to do it by holding down a key when you boot up or by opening the case and shorting a jumper. That's what I'd try anyway :)

Well, I pulled the battery, shorted the connectors and now the machine stays on, so I guess the cmos reset. However I still have no video signal to the monitor?!?!
I'm sure something's going on behind the monitor's self test screen saying "Monitor is functioning properly check your cable or p.c." I just cant see it!
I also tried another monitor w/ no luck.
what else could cause no signal from the p.c.?
