CPU/Ram: 2.8 Intel

Does anyone know of any compatibility issues between AOL 7.0 and the latest updates for XP? The reason I ask is becouse a friends PC has been hanging on Shutdown/Restart, all was well before one or the other was updated.
Thanks in advance for any sugestions

AOL has never been a friend of mine, but he may want to try http://www.slawdog.com/index.asp
smart shutdown or smart shutdown LX.
