Nothing happens when I try to shutdown or restart computer. No message appears. I have to press the power button to shut it down or restart.

hi mate try going to task manager and shutting down from there or you can system restore as you might have a missing link ok let me know how you get on

Hi Mel
Create these two shortcuts to shutdown or restart your computer. Right click on your desktop and create each new shortcut. Type in the location line the following: shutdown -s -t 0. Name it Shutdown. Repeat above for Restart by typing shutdown -r -t 0 and name it Restart. The ending is a zero and not the letter "oh". Put the icons in the Quick Launch taskbar and you're all set.
