There is a setting in Win-XP; you determine if XP resets automatically or if you prefer to see the blue screen of death instead. Actually, neither should occur.
I had a 7E error on Win-XP; MS Support helped... my BIOS was too old and I was crashing all over the place (especially after installing SP1). XP requires year 2000 or later. I had another system with a year 2000 AWARD BIOS; I switched systems and now XP works fine (I did the updates except for SP1... it's only a week old and I will wait). MS Support helped me re-register Win-XP after I changed out the hardware (motherboard/BIOS) and re-installed XP clean. My son's Win-XP laptop/notebook crashed (seemed CD related); his BIOS was year 2002, version 7. He verified with the manufacturer (website) who recommended a BIOS upgrade version 8 or later; this he downloaded and installed from the Internet. Hope this helps.
