I've got the same problem. I have an ASUS P2B-F motherboard, tried updating my BIOS and setting ACPI before installing windows, but nothing worked.
Please, if anybody's got a solution, please mail it to me, cause it's pissing me off =)

Check out the following, scroll down to Reboot instead of Shutdown:

I had the same problem until i enabled advanced power management.
Open CONTROL PANEL/POWER OPTIONS/APM
and Check the box.

Same prob here as well.
I'll try enabling APM but i've found that if i click 'hibernate' instead - it then shuts down. (message post 23880)
Anyone know why ?

It shuts down in Hibernate because XP saves its current settings and current running programs to the hard drive. It then shuts down completely. When you restart, Windows comes back up in the exact state you left it in (running programs and all).

You might want to uncheck the Automatic Restart option. To uncheck it go to start, right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties". Click on the "Advanced Tab" and select "Start Up and Recovery", go to the "System Failure" section and uncheck the option.

That may help.

Regards,

Fox
