Hi all, I'm using Windows XP Pro and a couple of weeks ago I noticed my "show desktop" icon was missing. I'm not sure why it was missing but I searched Google and found instructions on how to restore the icon that involved creating a .scf file with the following text;
I did this and dragged the file to the toolbar and the show desktop icon reappeared. However, after rebooting the icon was gone and when I restored it, it again disappeared after I shut down and booted the PC back up again. Any idea what the problem is? I've searched Google quite a bit and haven't found anybody experiencing this same problem. Thanks in advance for any help!

Dan, Are you dragging it into the Quick Launch area of the Taskbar aside of the Start button? Also are you sure it's not being hidden? Try clicking the small double arrow buttons on the right side of the Quick Launch and see if it appears.
Have you been using any type of reg cleaning program?
