well I will start from the beginning , I recently got a cheap CD RW and did a self install where I replaced the CD drive with the CD RW drive . Everything was going okish but when I restart/turn on the computer , the first screen comes up but then the screen comes up again with the following message.

"Sec Master ATAPI Incompatible , press F1 to continue"

So I press F1 and everything is normal , the CD RW works fine etc so should is there anyway I can make that message not occur and is it a serious problem?

Many thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!

First thing that comes to mind is the jumper setting on the new drive. Look at the back of the cd-rom and note the jumper setting, usually (master, slave, cable select). Be sure that the jumper on the cd-rw is the same as the 'removed' cd-rom.

Note: if you are running 2 drives off one ribbon cable, one drive should be set to Master and the other Slave.

Who makes that CD/RW? You should look into getting a driver update for it. That should solve the problem.

Try this link. It offers a firmware upgrade. The writer is a Micro Advantage product.
