|Here's an odd one - and I can't find any examples on the interweb of anyone else suffering this.|
We do not have local admin on our work PCs, but we can still add right-click menu actions to our file types via the GUI, or by adding to the registry via perl (some of the registry is writeable).
I recently added a shortcut to launch a compiler perl script to folders. When I did this, explorer lost its "default" action for folders (even though I did it via the GUI, and changed nothing else), and started opening search windows on double clicks.
I fixed this by restorting the defaults in the registry by writing a perl script. However, since then I now have the following odd behaviour:
When I do properties on any shortcut, it works fine ,until I click "Find Target". Once clicked, the target folder is opened, but the original properties page becomes broken (all other buttons work fine to my knowledge).
By broken, I mean when you change tab, the redrawing is not done properly, and you get half draw controls of both old and new tab. Also, none of the Ok / Cancel / X button work, so I cannot close the dialog.
Each time this happens I have to spend a few minutes randomly changes tabs back and forwards and repeatedly hitting cancel / ok, until eventually the dialog closes.
Has anyone seen anything like this before, or have any idea how to fix it???
