An online backup service I'm considering using backs up everything on your computer from the My Documents folder. If I created a shortcut to my D drive in My Documents, would this cause the backup service to backup everything on my D drive?

Also, do you have any idea if the backup process puts a big drain on my computer?

Thanks for your help.

the is not at all likely. if you are including 'My Documents' in your backup routine, then 'shortcut to my D drive.lnk' will be backed up.

"Also, do you have any idea if the backup process puts a big drain on my computer?"

depends an the size and amount of files/folders you are changing regularly. a massive outlook file for example will keep your internet connection quite busy for a while.

Yes, the idea of the shortcut to the D drive placed in the My Doucments on the C drive would be with the expectation that when the online backup service backs up the My Documents folder it would see the shortcut and then backup everything on the D drive.

So, apparently I'm correct in assuming that this would work, right?

Oracle already answered your question. The shortcut would be backed up. The target of the shortcut would not.

If you want the content of the D drive backed up, change the path of My Documents to D and move what you already have in the My Documents folder when prompted to.

Life's more painless for the brainless.
