I have a computer that is a few years old. I am upgrading it from windows 98 to windows XP. After about 2% of the files were copied a blue screen came up that says "The file shell32.dll was not copied correctly. The file setup placed on your hard drive is not a valid Windows XP system image. If you are installing from a CD, there maybe a problem with the Windows XP CD." Then the computer give the option to retry, skip, or quit. I don't want to skip it and have the install not work, so I decided to wait until i got advice to choose one.

DON'T upgrade, you are entering a world of s**t if you do. Do yourself a favour and format your drive first, THEN install Xp fresh.

I have tried to format and fresh install, but when it comes time for the computer to restart then finish the installation, a grey status bar appears and when it it gone, the screen stays black or gives me an error, so I'm reinstalling windows98 then upgrading to windowsXP
