I have Windows XP and when trying to open a Microsoft Office Word document (no trouble ever before) I get the following message:
Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Also: An exception occurred while trying to run shell32.dll, Control_RunDll appwiz.
I tried restoring but system cannot be restored. My computer is less than a year old: a Dell. Help

The command for Add/Remove Programs is: 'rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL appwiz.cpl '
Is that the full line of your error message?
You may have been infected with a trojan or virus: do you have an up to date AntiVirus application? If so make sure you do a full and thorough scan.
Have you attempted to use 'System Restore'?
START> ALL PROGRAMS> ACCESSORIES> SYSTEM TOOLS>Choose a date when you knew everything worked OK. If restore is successful then all is well.
If not, does your Dell users package come with a 'Recovery' Disk?
You may explore this and find a Windows XP Folder 'I386', if you do, then run WINNT.exe to reinstall XP and fix up all the files, registry etc.
If you have a recovery disk but cannot find the folder: make sure you back up all you files, settings and the like: then proceed with a full rebuild using the recovery disk.
Good luck
