Hi,
Is it possible to share a high speed internet connection (cable modem) between two XP Pro computers equipped only with ethernet cards and an RJ45 cable running between them? Or do I have to purchase a router/hub?

Yes it is. Just make sure its a crossover cable. Then use Internet Connection Sharing. You can look it up in Help on either PC.
