Shared Network Directories Slow

I have 2 PCs networked together via a Linksys DSL Router. Internet speeds are fine and file transfer speeds are acceptable, but when ever I try to open files on the other PC it seems to take ages for the window to appear (around 15 seconds). The other PC, also running WinXP is OK when looking at my files. Any Ideas why it takes so long on my machine?
