Shared Documents Folder Problem

Twice on my computer my shared documents folder has had problems. Once, the folder got corrupted and I couldn't even open it and it only said documents because my computer ran out of battery and shut down. The second time, I don't know how it happened, but it only said documents instead of shared documents but it was still fully functional. However, since it is a windows system folder, I was unable to change the name of the folder back to shared documents. Both times, tech support was unable to correct my problem so I had to reinstall my whole operating system. Was there any other way I could have fixed these problems should they happen again? Thanks for your help!

The following was cut/pasted from PCQuest.com:
You can remove the Shared documents folders The My Computer window has links to Shared documents folder, which is used by hardly anyone. This is a default setting and you cannot even delete them. To get rid of them, there is a simple registry modification. Start Regedit and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ My Computer \ NameSpace \ DelegateFolders
There is a sub-key called {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}. Delete this key. Reboot your PC to reinitialize the registry. All your Shared Folders will be gone.
(Backup the sub-key in case you ever want the Shared folder back)
