I don't really understand your question. Do you want to have all the same items setup in every user profile?

It is more that I have got account set up for the same person (as sometimes the same person uses diffrant computers on the workgroup network) And when i log on to eack pc the account setings are on that computer. What I want to do is set the account on each pc to use the same one. So that when i log on my account on any of the PCs I have the same desktop. (If on one PC i save something to my desktop, it is on the desktop of my account on the other PCs).

That isn't my forte but I think what you are looking for is a roaming profile. I can't help you much beyond that.

You can set up your desktop to any folder you want using TweakuiXP. If you don't have TweakuiXP, you should download it. It has a lot of good tweaks. To change your desktop and other system folders go to Tweakui > My Computer > Special Folders.

I haven't tried setting it to a network folder, but I think it should work.

I don't think what you want to do (use a roaming profile) is possible without a Domain Controller.

Jennifer, I mentioned roaming profile but I don't know if that would help accomplish what the OP wants to do.

I have downloaded TweakuiXP and this works with most of the folders (Like Favorites and Start Menu folders), i just had to set the folder i whanted to use - up as a network drive. but it dosent work with Desktop. As on the computer that i am useing as my main PC, i have set up to share my accounts desktop folder, but when i go to open it (in my Network Places) it dosen open and shows the message 'You might not have permisson to use this network resource. ACCESS IS DENIED.' So i have tryed making a new folder to use as the accounts desktop folder, it lets me change it to this folder on this main P.C. (and works fine) but when I change the desktop on the other PCs to this folder, it dosen not work, and comes up with the error 'An erroer occurred while reconneting to: S:\\PC-1\Karl\New Desktop Folder\Karl Desktop.
Microsoft windows network: The network parth was not found.
This conection has not been restored.'
Then I tryed opening the network drive 'S' from my computer and i get this notices again. When I then tryed opening the network folder from My Network Places, I got 'You might not have permisson to use this network resource. ACCESS IS DENIED.' again.

Hi Chris, sorry you are having problems with it. I just finished trying it here and it did work for me. If you have marked the folder as shared, I don't know why it isn't working. However, I am kinda weak on networking knowledge. Maybe someone in the networking forum will be able to help.

You say that it works, but i think it dose work but the problem is when i set more than one computer to use this folder as the desktop folder. (I only have this problem with the desktop folder. I don't know if it could be that a desktop folder can not be shared. And if it any help it is a XP home P.C.

Chris, I did some more checking and discovered one complication. I have the 'complete' drive shared on the other PC where I put the desktop folder. I wonder if that makes a difference.

(edit) disregard the following, Chris. I forgot to share the desktop folder. I tried again and it worked fine with just the desktop folder shared.

I tried un-sharing the drive, but then when I tried to use Tweakui to change the location of the desktop, tweakui couldn't see the drive and so it couldn't see the desktop folder on it.

Max is it XP home or Pro or an other vision you use. As it might be that it only works on XP Pro.

-Have you got two computer set up (using TweakuiXP) to use the same folder as desktop. (this is what i want to do and this is where it goes wrong)

CHRIS.

I don't know if it could make a difference, but my main PC is XP Home and the PC I moved the desktop to is an XP Pro. I do know that there are some differences in networking between Pro and Home. It's gonna take someone with more knowledge then me to help with this problem.

(edit)
We overlapped Chriis. But I should mention that I tried the test between two XP Pro machines and it worked also.

By the way, this is a peer to peer network.

I'll have to check on that, Chris. I can't do it right now, but I will as soon as I can.

Ok Chris, I checked with two PCs sharing the same remote desktop and it worked fine.

#1 PC XP Pro had the remote desktop

#2 PC XP Home used the remote desktop ok

#3 PC XP Pro used the remote desktop ok

All three systems were sharing the same desktop.

Max, hear are you talking about Remote Desktop Connection, program in the Start Menu, as this is not what I want to do. What I want to do is the stand desktop that you see on screen is from the folder ‘C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Desktop’ and I want to change it to the desktop folder on another XP Home P.C. ( the folder on the other is on the network to access it, it is ‘\\Pc-1\CHRIS\Desktop’ but when I click to open it, it comes op with the message 'You might not have permission to use this network resource. ACCESS IS DENIED.' This is the problem ( when I change the desktop folder to this location, and I log on I get the message
'An error occurred while reconnecting to: S:\\PC-1\CHRIS\Desktop
Microsoft windows network: The network path was not found.’

Nope Chris, I have used tweakui to change the desktop location on PCs #2 and #3 to use PC #1's desktop (as shown in rsponse #16) and it works fine.

No problem Chris, I can see that my using 'remote desktop' was confusing the matter.

(edit) I think you have hit upon the problem, Chris. Using the XP Home PC for the desktop doesn't work for me either.

If you find out why, please post it here.
