Hello, When trying to use 'SFC /scannow' from 'run' in the start menu with the Windows XP CD in the CDROM, I get only a quick opening and closing of a ms-dos window, not the normal dialog scan box. What is causing this and how do I fix it? Thanks, John

Try CMD in the run box, enter, and then sfc /scannow.

Hello per, It is still not working, I get the error: Windows File Protection could not initiate a scan of protected system files. The specific error code is 0x000006ba [The RPC server is unavailable.] Anyone have this problem before?? John

Thanks, but I just found out what my problem is, when I installed uxtheme.dll I had to replace some system files to disable file protection, anyhow I just had to restore my backup and everything is fine, I think, I have to reboot, if I don't post back all is well. John
