my sfc/scannow is not working i type it in and a black screen flashes for like a milli second and than nothing happens

Start>Run then type in "services.msc" - without the quotes. On the screen that appears scroll down until you come to 'Remote Procedure Call'. Have a look in the Status column and if the Service isn't started, right click on it and select 'Start'. .The default setting for RPC is "Automatic"
There is another service called "RPC Locator", and the default setting of this service should be "Automatic" not Manual. switched that service ON...... and that will solve the problem!
you can't run it from the run window, you need to run it from a command prompt. open the run window and type in "cmd" without the quotes, then type in the sfc command.
Kurt S. Not so. SFC /SCANNOW is normally run from the run window.
Hi Per, I have to dissagree, try it on your system and see what happens.
Hi Kurt S. It is supposed to run from the "run" box. If yours doesn't there is a registry fix for it. Check Kelly's. There is a fix there I think. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378
Hi Per, interesting, I've never run it from there, didn't know it was an issue, thanks for the fix.
You are welcome. :>}
I've been having a similar problem trying to get sfc /scannow working. I have tried to run it from the RUN window as well as a CMD window without success. I have also made sure I have the appropriate settings for both the RPC and RPC Locator. This all started when I discovered that I couldn't get my System Info to work (i.e. msinfo32.exe) OR the Help & Support feature. I just seem to be going round and round in circles!!!
