Hello, all.

Windows XP's SFC /SCANNOW doesn't seem to be working. Even if I have my XP CD-ROM in the CD drive, SFC keeps asking to insert the XP CD-ROM. What do I do? My system isn't working too well, but I don't want to repair and reinstall all the updates (I have dial-up). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

-Andy

Andy11,

If you only have a recovery CD or restore CD that came with your brand-name PC, sfc /scannow will not work.

With such CDs. you can only reinstal your system back to its pre-installed state.

I'm using an OEM CD which has the XP Installation files. And, it worked before, so it must be an error in the system structure or something. My point is, how do I repair this so I can ensure integrity? I cannot run SFC in Recovery Console. Any other ideas?

Thanks. :)

Assume you've tried it without the CD. It may look for files in the cab files if they're on your hard drive.

Andy11,
sfc /scannow looks for the first CD-ROM letter. If your Burner is "D" and the CD-ROM is "E", then insert the XP-CD in "D".
