This is a strange problem:

My computer monitor decided to stop working. At least, that's what I thought. So I bought a new one: Same problem. Figured it was my vioideo card, so I got a new one: Same problem. During bootup, and I know that it's booting, the screen is totally blank. When it gets to the windows logon screen, I can see it--sometimes--but it's off-kilter, riddled with lines, and generally distorted. As soon as I log on, it goes away again, blank screen. Any ideas?

I had this same problem once. But even more server. Try tapping F8. Do you see anything? A menu should appear. Select Enable VGA mode. Does it work? How about (same steps) Last Known Good Configuration? If that doesn't help, like it happened to me, then I think you should call your manufactor and order a System Recovery CD, if you don't alreay have one. I had to do this and it worked out fine. Too bad i never backed-up anything ever. So I lost it all.

Sounds like you only got 1 more possibility, it's always the last thing you buy. But first try reseating your ram and checking all the other connections. But if it were mine I would change out the motherboard. If you end up doing that and you don't want to reinstall the o.s. here is a trick I heard(read) about here on this forum. I'm pasting this from another post.

Before you swap out the current motherboard go to device manager and select the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller and select your current storage controller. Right click, select update driver and select install from a list or specific location. Click don't search I will choose the driver to install and select the standard dual channel IDE controller.

This will prevent the inaccessable boot device blue screen. I have done this multiple times on different platforms with no problems.

Also I found that booting the first time with the new motherboard is best done in the Safe mode where XP will install the drivers it needs and at the same time you can install the new motherboard drivers from its CD.

This saved me doing a repair or a reinstall of XP. My whole system came right up and worked great and very stable.
