Setup Cannot copy files during XP install

October 18, 2010 at 11:18:25
Specs: Windows XP, Intel 4/

During XP setup on a PC I keep getting messages that " setup cannot copy the file: xxx.xx ". I get that for about twenty files, mostly .dll files. I have tried several different legal Window XP disks but they all do the same. What is causing this and can it be fixed?

I had a problem like this once, it was faulty RAM

download the memtest86 live cd http://www.memtest86.com/download.html

Or perhaps its the cd drive.

A thank you would be nice, if I have helped.

I would test it hard drive as well. Find out the manufacturer of your hard drive and go to their website and download diagnostics. Run a diag on your hard drive to see if anything wrong with your hard drive.

I checked some other websites looking for answers and heard the same thing. So I down loaded the memtest86 and will run it tomorrow. I also have several spare memory sticks ready to try if it appears to be the memory. I will let everyone know toorrow what happens. Thanks.

Checking the hard drive was one of the first things I did. Everything checked out fine. I am going to check the memory chips first. If that doesn't fix it then I am going to check the dvd-rom drive. Thank You>
