For some reason some of my settings change each time I reboot. The first one is the num lock which is enabled in the bios is not on when it gets to windows. Also, the hide inactive icons doesn't seem to save my settings either, I have to manually change it each time I reboot. Finally, my screensaver never comes on automatically. I have to go in and reset it. If it isn't 4 minutes or less it won't come on. This is very aggravating. Please help if possible. Thanks in advance.

Crimsonisland,

Num Lock is being overridden by a registry enter most likely. Here is the regisrty enrty in question:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Keyboard

The entry is InitialKeyboardIndicators

the number in the entry is the default wy the keyboard is set up:-

0 = All Keys off
1 = Caps Lock on
2 = Num Lock on
3 = Caps Lock and Num Lock on
4 = Scroll Lock on
5 = Caps Lock and Scroll Lock on
6 = Num Lock and Scroll Lock on
7 = Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock on

Open (double click) the entry and set the number to what you want. 2 would be for NUMLOCK only.

The screen saver issue may be due to the POWER settings. Check your POWER settings in the same place where you set the screen saver time, and see if the monitor is set to turn off at a lower time than your screen saver setting. make sure the monitor time out is set to higher than your screen saver. EG SCREEN SAVER = 15 minutes, MONITOR = 30 minutes.

HIDE INACTIVE ICONS issue. Go into the properties for START bar, and click CUSTOMIZE for Hiding icons. Check that the icons BEHAVIOR is set to HIDE WHEN INACTIVE. If you click on an icon in the list a scroll bar appears in the BEHAVIOR column, and you can set the option there.

Safe Computing...:o)

I fixed the num lock problem. For some reason my inactive icons are hiding like they should. The only problem I am having is the fact that my system doesn't go to screensaver which causes the screen not to turn off. Sometimes it does go to screensaver, but no monitor going off. I am open to ideas.
