Setting up new hard drive or....

I have a 30 GB hard drive that has Windows millennium on C: and XP on D:

I'm and running out of space. Is there a way to delete Windows millennium?

If not, can I setup a new harddrive using another computer and then install it into my regular computer when I get it "tweaked" the way I like it?

The second computer is a emachine running a Celeron processor if that makes a difference.

If you can get a copy of partition magic 8.0 or 7, its a very good software to work around with partitions.

Otherwise, the answer is yes, you can delete windows ME by just accessing it thro FDISK. Very easy, delete the partition and format. Just make sure you know what your doing. So many sites out there on how to do that. Just google it. I don't know how much you know so I don't know how much to give you. You can then resize your HDD and whalla..more space for you XP.

Just delete ME from the C drive and edit the boot.ini file so it only see's the xp boot. All the XP boot files are on C:. If you do a setup from the other machine XP won't allow a boot from the primary machine as it won't recognize the machine.Hope this helps. Good luck.

Follow up. If you format C: you will lose the XP boot files.

Per,
Tell him what happens when he tries to reboot after doing this. Also if he uses FDISK on it as Scuzzy says.

Yeah, domass, he will get SYSTEM FILES NOT FOUND. Regardless of what partition you put XP on the system files go on C: drive. ntldr, boot, ini, etc. Are you just playing or are you serious? Having fun.

Cool, domass. I was trying to get the same message across, as scuzzy was giving some bad info. Not to be derogatory, but it was going to cause problems that may not be able to be resolved without a clean install.

I thought the same thing. Although I don't know that much about partition magic there sure seems to be a lot of people who come here after they use it. It might be a wonderful program but I think I will stick with the original windows way to partition.

I use PM 8.0 occasionally, but not for that. It will not change anything except your partition size. It doesn't fix anything, it simply allows you to change partition size or install a new O/S on a new partition.
