Hi everybody,
The 10 GB HDD on a friend's old machine is out of room, so I installed a 350 GB HDD intending to transfer everything but the OS over to it, and use the 10 GB HDD as a dedicated system drive. Windows won't let me move the Documents and Settings folder however. This is the first time I've tried to create a dedicated system drive, and didn't expect to run into this problem. Is what I'm trying to do possible, or do I need to buy Norton Ghost, transfer everything, and forget using the 10 GB HDD altogether? The 350 GB HDD I just bought is a WD, and came with a disk of utilities. I will install that and read what documentation it provides as I await a reply.
Thank you for your time,
Kirk Obenschain

Tweakui will let you move some of the system folders, but not 'Documents and Settings'. Look in the 'My Computer > Special folders' section.
Something else to do is install all programs on the bigger drive.

There is two ways that it can be done...
1) moving on user specified data files and leaving key system files alone
2) moving the whole folder.Microsoft shows all the steps for each case!

Thank you aegis, and lurkswithin, for your replies. I'm saving the link to the MS KB article in case I decide to go that route. What I may do, however, is go ahead and get Norton Ghost. I've been wanting to add that to my toolkit anyway. Whatever I do will have to wait until after I take my Essentials exam next week; I've got too much studying to do at present. The urgency of the problem has been greatly abated by the deletion of a large file. I poked around and found a 3.5 GB file called "MyBackUp.qic". It's four-year-old Windows 98 backup that's no longer needed. So it turns out I could have skipped buying the new HDD drive. Oh well; live and learn.
Thanks again,
Kirk
