Ok, a friend of mine and I would like to set up a fax machine on our computers. I run XP and she runs 98. We both have high speed modems (external) and we both also have 56k modems in our computers. Is it possible to set up a fax program with the 56k modems and not bugger anything up with our high speed and our phone lines?
Also, what is a good faxing program to use?

I'm no expert, but
I have just found that XP has its own FAX program. I went to Windows HELP Index and type:
faxes sending
Then I just installed the Windows Component.
It all looks good, don't ask how it works.

yeah, XP has it's own fax program, but i haven't tried it yet. It created an icon under "printers"...but it says it points to an invalid device...and when i made it point to my printer, it simply became a 2nd copy of my printer icon. So I think it might expect a real fax machine to be connected to it? Then again, i haven't read the help files (so i guess it isn't plug and play...you might need to configure it)
If you both have high speed internet and only fax to each other, why don't you want to fax that way?
Anyway, if your modem is a 56k fax modem, you should already have a fax program for it. (I don't know if all 56k data modems can be used for faxes too...but i know mine is specifically a data/fax modem)

Winfax pro ver 10 compatable with xp and has scheduling capabilities for both internet and regular fax www.symantic.com costs$$ but you get what you pay for :)

WinFax Pro 10.00 is not compatible with XP. WinFax Pro 10.02 is. If you want to use calling cards for faxing, good luck. I cannot come up with a good solution. I thought 10.02 was the answer but it is a piece a junk when it comes to calling cards (the kind you get at Sam's Club). WinFax Pro seems to be unstable in XP. Even the 10.02 seems to be giving me systems problems. I would use XP's fax program if you have simple needs and stay away from WinFax.
