Hi Solarian. Rained another 3 days, but we needed it. Next 10 days forecast is clear and warming to mid 70's day and 50's at night. Did you get your weird virus resolved?

Please post back within 24 hours or I will delete the post from my follow up list. Thanks.

Hi; I installed it yesterday off of the Microsoft CD. So far all is running fine, with no problems noticed at all. In fact, my boot-up speed has increased and some of my apps open faster too; I have no idea why, but I welcome it.

I did not loose anything. I have over 1,000 jpgs, some documents, and various files and folders and I did not loose anything at all.
I did make back-ups on my important stuff, just in case though.

The install was a breeze as I had no problems at all. That new pop-up blocker is a great addition as well.

If you are contemplating the install, read up on some of the many posts regarding cleaning up your pc prior to the install, and other necessary things to do to get the pc ready.

So to answer your question regarding if the pc is safer and better, I can tell you that performance wise it has gotten better on my pc. I'm not the expert on security issues, but I would assume it is protected rather good. The Shields-Up scan shows fully stealthed, anyways. And that new Security Center recognizes my McAfee and Zone Alarm.

Hope this helps a little... you'll probably get quite a few responses here; as some people had difficulties with it. Fortunately for me, all is o.k. so far. I hope it stays that way!
Take care...

I did as the above said but I do not have the Windows XP Hotfit - KB834707 and I can't remove something that is not there. But I still have the same problem and I can only get to the desktop with no icons and nothing else. I am using XP Home

Please help.

PaulPaul ...

Win XP SP2 should be safe to download & run. I did it from MS website, and it's doing fine. Before you install it, however, be sure to check and clean your PC of any possible spyware by running, e.g., Ad Aware and/or Spybot. If you don't have those programs, you can download them for free. I usually get them from www.download.com.
