Installed this new SP2. How do I get rid of the Security Alert and the Messenger icons in system tray every time I start up - what are the registry entries to delete?

dont know the reg entries to delete but you can click on it then click recomendations for each thing that is being monitored and then click on "I will monitor myself" it'll warn you that you dont know what your doing, just click ok and do it for all 3 items and it'll go away.

That takes care of Security Alert, but what about the Windows Messenger service?

At the run command, type msconfig and the last tab has startup items - just disable Msn messenger entry and it won't appear in the tray next time you start your computer.

Fire up MSN Messenger > Tools > Option > General > Uncheck "Automaticlly run Messenger when i log on to Windows.

There is a defferent between Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger. Windows Messenger, after SP2 installation, is set to "disable" by default.

After I installed SP2, I was able to easily uninstall Messenger from "Add/Remove Window Components". Then I deleted the C:\Program files\"Messenger" folder.

yankanuk, good suggestion!
It took MS soooo long to realise its Windows Messenger is a BIG security risk. XP SP2 shoots the messenger now.
I am still not sure if the Original Message is about Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger.

The popup Windows Messenger is disabled by default with sp2.

To remove MSN Messenger... Go to Start / Run then paste this...

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

It is Yahoo Messenger which I assume is like MSN Messenger, and there is no msmgs in my start up. But now the icon has disappeared anyway from the system tray. My other problem is the computer icon shows up twice and one of them says "limited connectivity" except that I have no connection problem that I can see. What gives?
