Because of problems with the latest update of the free Zonealarm and an article in PC Magazine Belgium, I de-installed the programme, not with ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, bus as advised with the un-install of the programme itself. Then, as advised I tried to re-install the latest update, but ... an error message appeared:
"Setup is unable to log into the TrueVector service. Install cannot continue without logging into the TrueSector service. Please use the service manager to shut down the TrueSector service and then start the installer programme".

I suspected the service manager to be MS-TaskManager and found a number of files I could not make head or tails of. Was I right to think TaskManager and service manager are the same or not ? If yes, which file do I uninstall ? If not, how do I go about ? I have always used Zonealarm to satisfaction and would like to re-install it.

Can anyone help me how to solve this ?

Thanks

start > run > services.msc

right click on true vector ..., stop the service, then re-install your update.

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

To protect I activated Windows XP Firewall after I started the process I told about above.

I have tried removing TrueVector with start > run > services.msc. Still got the error. Then looked in Add/Remove Programs and ZoneAlarm was stil there. Removed it. Same error. Then restarted my computer, thinking there was still something in memory, but no luck. Error still there.

I also tried to restore to an earlier time. Still error message. Now I think it is getting serious. For

Solved !!

I went into system32 and found that there was still a subdirectory "Zonelabs". This I deleted. Then after running a registry cleaner (CCleaner), which had to be done a few times the registry I was left with two missing referrals in the startup. These I was able to get rid of with another registry cleaner (Clean System v1.7). Then I was able to re-install Zonealarm.
