Server Service not started....

everything was fine until my wife installed some software for a digital camera, then when i tried to get to the shared drives/files on her PC, it told me i didnt have permission so i checked her PC and it shows none of her files or drives are shared, when i tried to fix that i got the error "server service not started" so i searched the net and found instructions how to go to admin tools and turn it on...
however when i go there and click start , i get the error saying the system cant find the specified file. not usre what else to try...please help....thanks
