Hi Guys....
I get this really strange message on my desktop every time I boot up:

Server Busy
This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy
Choose 'switch to' activate the busy program and correct the problem.

Has anyone any ideas how I can fix or get rid of this on each boot up.

Either you acquired a used notebook, or you configured the notebook to function as a client on a DHCP network.

Apparently, you are not connected to this network as the client is searching for the PDC.

"PDC" is a primary domain controller. That's the server which, I believe, is being described in the error message.

"DHCP" stands for dynamic host control protocol, and that means that the client (your computer) is waiting to be assigned an IP address, but it's not happening.

I don't have experience with (successfully) networking XP clients on a DHCP domain, so watch for further advice, some of which might be enlightening to me as well.

I think you should be able to select a logon to the local machine at the prompt where you type in your password. Isn't there a drop down menu for either the name of a domain, or for the name of your individual host (machine)?

This might be a very easy problem, but let's work it through one step at a time.

That was my undersatnding.

Do you go through a logon name and password, or are you the only person who uses this machine?

Don't bother trying to find him

You may have something starting up thru MSCONFIG when your computer starts.

You can check by going to Start-Run-and type msconfig and OK. Put the dot in selective startup and click the startup tab. I cannot help you with the item that may be causing this but it will have a check mark and may have some of the wording of the error message. Remove the check mark apply OK and you will need to reboot.

Here's the deal...

You have more than one LAN configured for that computer. One of them works okay. That's the internet. The one that's not working okay, you can essentially disable.

If you're following me so far, and neither you nor anyone else posts an inflammatory point of disagreement, we should be able to disable that second LAN step-by-step.

Is this making any sense? I mean, do icons show up in your taskbar for more than one network card?

Don't ask me nothin' about nothin',
I just might tell you the truth.

Alright...

So right now everything is working okay, but you get this jive a.. error message every time you start Windows XP?

Let me sleep on this 'til tomorrow, as I'm getting ready to leave work, and won't be near a computer for several hours.

You might get some sound advice from another forum member in the mean time.

I don't make a policy of emailing people directly. That defeats the purpose of the forum. Other people learn from our dialogue.

Why are you so sure that the "Server Busy" message is not coming from the internet? Do you have a dial-up connection? Or is your internet connection "always on"?

There's plenty of work,

Has this prob been solved? Because I'm having this same Dialog Box randomly when navigating on the Internet. However, I'm also having a problem of freezing. My Internet Explorer is freezing whenever their is a popUp of any kind, wheter it's me CTRL+N or SHIFT+link or a normal or ad popUp... the main window freezes for about a minute or so, and nothing happens afterwards (the popUp doesn't show)

These 2 problems seem to have started togheter. Might they be related?

By the way, I didn't change/add/remove anything relating to network settings.
Also did spyware removal with to progs.
Also tried re-installing IE.
Also used the "system file checker".
Might have tried other small things...
All to no avail.

I had exactly the same problem. The only thing that seemed to cure it was to restore my system to a previous configuration. I only did it this morning, and it restarted ok so fingers crossed. The only items I have installed since this were the photo programs that came with my digital camera, but cant see what problems they could cause. Still you never know with computers. If that doesn't work, I shall just have to reformat the whole thing and start again which should be fun.
Regards,
Angie
