Network Install of SP2 (very big)

These are just a few of the many, many pages on the web about Service Pack 2, you can have a look through them all here.

I have beta tested SP2 for quite a while now and know a fair bit about it so if you have any queries just post on here and I will aim to answer them.

That would be Service Pack 2 in the subject, not Serivce Pack 2!

Thanks for all that info

I read somewhere that there is trouble with the Install if one has Ahead's(Nero) InCd

Do you know anything about that?

I assume that the trouble would only arise if it is on the System Tray and one could Disable it in Ms Config anyway before Installing the SP

Thanks

Lesley

I don't use InCD so I don't know (but I use Nero with no problems). It is always best to close everything before the install anyway. If it does cause problems then I'm sure Ahead will release an update for it.

I use Nero InCd and I have had no problems with it.

Just installed the official SP2 today--no problem and I have Nero. It also functioned fine under the SP2 pre release.

Glad to hear nobody is having problems - yet. I certainly haven't had any major problems with any of the betas going right back to 2055 which was a lot different to the final release build today.

My desktop is running fine with sp2. Different story with my Toshiba Portege 2000 laptop. This is a machine that has never even hiccupped in 2 years of heavy use. Since the sp2 install I have had several mysterious freezes and today the mouse operation became totally erratic with spurious mouse clicks occuring randomly with no user action.

I have uninstalled sp2 and will wait to see what happens with subsequent patches. This is the first failed service pack I have experienced with W2000 or xp. Oh well.

Alan56 thanks for the list.

It's no wonder my unit became hard to handle; nearly half of my software is on that list.

My Office 2003 Suite hasn't worked correctly even after I removed SP2.

I'm one that will be formatting in a few days and reinstalling everything. I may try to install SP2 at again at that time

Thanks for the link to that list Alan56 - it is quite long I suppose! I did a format and a fresh reinstall with SP2 slipstreamed onto my CD, very handy. No problems as yet.

I found that I could not enter Safe Mode while InCD was installed after installation of SP2. Removing InCD restored Safe Mode capability.
